Single-Car Sensations! First Peek at our Class 153 Decorated Samples

An exclusive first look at our Class 153 decorated samples!

Fresh from the factory, our first trial decorated Class 153 DMU samples have arrived for evaluation. There’s still plenty of feedback to work through and a few refinements to make, but we’re excited to give you an early glimpse of how things are shaping up.

Take a look!

As with every project, getting the details just right is a painstaking process, and our aim is to capture the real-life Class 153s as faithfully as possible.

Seeing the first colour applied to the bodyshells really brings the models to life. These early decorated samples have already helped us identify a few areas for improvement, which we'll be working through with the factory.

We'll share a more detailed update on these refinements in due course, but for now, we hope you enjoy this first glimpse!

More decorated samples are on the way, and once they arrive, we will have a further update to confirm the delivery schedules for the models.

We've also had the chance to take a first look at the interior, with the seating and grab rails picked out in contrasting colour too.

Inside you can see the concealed interior lighting and provision for the side door indicator lights too, and we'll continue to make refinements to the area too.

Looking to find out more about the Class 153 & Class 155 'Sprinter' project?

Why not take a look at our video below as Accurascale's Ben Jones talks through the key features of the models:

Introduced in the late 1980s as two-car Class 155 'Sprinters', these units were designed to modernise British Rail's regional services.

As demand grew for more flexible trains on rural and lightly used routes, many were rebuilt into single-car units, with each vehicle receiving a second driving cab at the inner end.

The result was the Class 153 - a compact, adaptable DMU that would go on to serve communities across Britain for decades.

The Class 153 & 155 Sprinter DMUs come with a high specification - including an ESU PCB, bespoke DCC sound package, factory-fitted speakers, full lighting suite, and magnetic BSI couplers for easy multiple-unit operation.

The lighting is fully controllable, with directional day/night headlights, cab lights, illuminated door buttons, and side indicators. Powered by a smooth-running low-profile motor paired with our ‘Stay Alive’ system, these units are built to deliver the best running performance on your layout.
